Our Belief
We believe children are unique individuals with innate abilities
who engage with their environment, peers, and adults in an ongoing process
to construct understanding of their world.
Our goal is to foster a learning community in which reciprocal relationships exist among all members, resulting in an atmosphere of respect, inspiration, and discovery.
What makes us different?
Nature
Exposure to natural spaces improves children's awareness, reasoning and observation skills. Through our play yard, courtyard and grounds, children have many opportunities to learn in and from nature.
Loose Parts
Loose parts provide endless ways to explore and create using: problem solving, engineering, language, mathematical and scientific thinking, concentration, social emotional development, and much more. And because they are so versatile, two children can use the same material but have very different experiences.
Emergent Curriculum
Our curriculum is a dynamic framework that responds to the children’s interests, developmental needs, and Ohio’s standards. We provide children many opportunities to learn problem-solving (both cognitive and social), use their imaginations and creativity, and explore the world around them.
Umbrellas
Each year our teachers choose an umbrella--a big idea--to focus on for the year. Teachers provide provocations related to the umbrella and then observe and listen to the children to see where it will lead. It is this reciprocal conversation of provocation and response that allows children to fully explore these big ideas. Examples of past umbrellas: movement, community, collections, nature.
