Our Educational Purpose

Our purpose has always been to provide a safe and stimulating environment which promotes the social, emotional, intellectual and physical development of each child enrolled; and, to help parents acquire a greater understanding and enjoyment of their children and of other children. Parents are invited to attend workshops on parenting and fun nights exploring curriculum.

About Us

Friendship Preschool was started in 1983 as a parent co-op and transitioned to being a fully staffed preschool in the 1990s.  (That means we're not a co-op anymore, but love to have parents involved!)

Since it's beginning, Friendship has served as an outreach of Friendship United Methodist Church to meet the developmental needs of children from all faiths, reflecting the diversity of our community. All are accepted regardless of race, color, national or ethnic origin, religion, gender, disability, or sexual orientation.

Friendship United Methodist Church began in 1836 in Lockland, OH. Today FUMC welcomes hundreds of members for services and programs throughout the week. Our ministries and missions reach far out into the community and the world. To find out more visit FriendshipWyoming.com.

We embrace the social-constructivist theoretical teaching model. We are inspired by the theories of John Dewey, Jean Piaget, Lev Vygotsky, Jerome Bruner, Howard Gardner, Loris Malaguzzi, Maria Montessori, David Hawkins, and many others.

Opportunities are created and materials provided for children to construct knowledge in the areas of social, emotional, physical, and intellectual development. Curriculum materials are selected to facilitate children's construction of knowledge by encouraging them to explore, experiment, create, problem solve, and share ideas with one another, collaborating. Since learning is an active process, there is activity occurring in the classrooms! (The activity is punctuated by quiet areas for when minds and bodies need to rest.)

During this process, the entire school community is encouraged to engage in ongoing reflective thinking and collaboration. It is through this practice that we discover, learn, and grow in our understanding of each other and the world. It is a necessary vehicle for teachers to examine their practice and then act intentionally on their reflections and understandings.
